GETTING HERE

Nahanni Butte is a picturesque community located in the confluence of South Nahanni River and Liard River. Nahanni Butte Community Government is engaging Government of Canada and Government of Northwest Territories (GNWT) to build a bridge over Liard river at Nahanni Butte River crossing as it doesn't have an all-season road for year around connectivity. 

• Ice road is available generally between December 20 - March 31 and can be used to drive directly into the community. The distance between Yellowknife to Nahanni Butte by road is about 714 Kms, the distance between Fort Nelson to Nahanni Butte is about 318 Kms by road, the distance between Fort Simpson and Nahanni Butte by road is about 210 Kms and the distance between Fort St. John (B.C.) to Nahanni Butte by road is about 700 Kms.

• The community remains isolated during summer ice break-up (April-May) and fall freeze-up (October-December) and you can only fly-in during these isolation periods.

• River Taxi operates generally between May 15 - October 20. Please get in touch with Nahanni River Expediting for river taxi and transportation services using the following link https://nahannigov.ca/nahanni-river-expediting or contact Nahanni Butte Band Office (867-602-2900).

• There is a airport in community, but no scheduled commercial services available at this time. South Nahanni Airways ( (867) 695-2263), Simpson Air ( (867) 695-2505), Goose Flying Service  ((867) 695-1644) and Summit Air ((867) 873-4464) provides chartered aircraft (on-demand) services to Nahanni Butte community Airport from Fort Simpson airport, Yellowknife airport, Fort Nelson (B.C.) airport, and Fort St John (B.C.) airport.

• Great Slave Helicopters (GSH,  (867) 873-2081), Dehcho Regional Helicopters (DRH,  (867) 695-2326) provides on-demand helicopter services in and around community.

• Nahanni Butte has a community Gas Station (867-364-1007), 7-room accommodation facility for tourists and visitors (867-602-2023), a Grocery store and a Post office (867-364-1006.
