The Department of Public Works (DoPW) strives to provide responsive municipal services to the public within the policies, objectives and budget outlined by Band Management. DoPW is responsible for the planning, construction, and maintenance of public infrastructure. This department carries out the operations and maintenance programs which cover the delivery of basic municipal services, such as providing trucked water and sewer services to all residents, maintenance of community water plant, the provision of garbage collection and disposal, snow removal from public places, the maintenance and repair of the community roadways, maintaining the vehicles, boats and equipment fleet across all departments of Nahanni Butte Dene Band and group, maintain dumpsite and landfills areas, maintain public buildings, and other essential facilities that serve the community. The department ensures that these services and infrastructures are built, maintained, and operated efficiently and safely to meet the needs of the public.
The Department of Public Works play a key role in community planning, environmental protection, and public safety. They are also responsible for maintaining the Fire Department in the community.
